Jason Statham – Bald Action Hero
Jason Statham is undoubtedly the action star for the 21st century. With the fighting skills of Chuck Norris, the attitude of Van Damme and the charisma of Bruce Willis, he fills every niche when a director is looking for a hardman to take up some of cinema’s most action packed roles. Not only is he a movie star though, but he is also revered the world over as one of the most attractive actors around, with women swooning over him and men simply just wanting to be him. Unusually though he has accomplished all this while never having a full head of hair, as Statham is one of just a handful of Hollywood actors with a visible, complete baldness.
What has worked to Statham’s favor though is that he has never tried to hide his bald head, except for in few movies few years ago when the role required him to use wigs. While other actors often wear hair pieces or shave their head to make themselves look deliberately bald, Statham has never tried to hide the fact that his hair is actually disappearing. Instead he has relied on his obvious talent, muscles and natural good looks to get him through in life – and he hasn’t done too badly so far…
Statham first rose to fame in the 1998 British movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, where he played a Cockney with a criminal streak. He was unheard of before this but the movie soon shot him to stardom, as the world woke up to the first British all action hero. In fact, it is his cheeky Cockney accent that contributes towards his success, as he provides a different angle for directors when creating their new movies. Even in his first appearance in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels though, he was already balding – therefore showing that it is always possible to get a break and that hair loss is certainly no barrier to this.
Since his debut, Statham has gone on to star in a number of hugely successful movies, such as Snatch, The Transporter, Death Race and The Mechanic. He has even provided a voice in both Gnomeo & Juliet and in computer game Call of Duty! Perhaps his most career defining moment so far though was when he was cast alongside an all-star selection of action heroes – Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture and Mickey Rourke – in The Expendables, which confirmed that he was indeed on the A-List in this genre. In fact, by starring alongside Bruce Willis, there was double proof that balding men should never let their hair loss hold them back and that they can achieve if they have genuine talent.
Statham has a number of movies that are scheduled for release in the coming year, therefore proving that his popularity is showing no signs of waning. He will shortly be seen in The Expendables 2, as well as in Killer Elite, Safe and Echelon – where he should appear as you may expect him to be – the action hero of our time, who takes care of business and stand on his own to get things right, and not looks at the mirror all day trying to look good. Still, by not making much effort and just being himself he still look like the coolest and hardest action hero on the planet.
