Vitamin Research Products Polysorbate 80
The use of Polysorbate for hair loss was pioneered by a Finnish doctor, Dr. Illona Purola who was conducting research on skin cancer when she discovered that Polysorbate, when applied to the scalp, promotes hair regrowth. Two theories have been proposed to explain how polysorbate promotes hair regrowth. First is that Polysorbate, a known cleanser, emulsifier, and surfactant, helps to get rid of dihydrotestosterone or DHT. DHT is a testosterone derivative that cause pattern baldness in men and women. Second, Polysorbate is known to trigger the release of histamine, which improves blood flow and nutrition to the hair follicles (stimulating cell growth).
Polysorbate 80 Ingredients
Polysorbate is made of the union of sorbitol (a naturally occurring sugar found in fruits and berries) with a monounsaturated fatty acid, such as oleic acid (can be found found in olives, almonds, and avocadoes). Polysorbate 80 (which is the most effective form for hair loss) contains oleic acid. There are also other Polysorbates, such as Polysorbate 20 and Polysorbate 60. Polysorbate 60 combines sorbitol with stearic acid. Polysorbate 60 is also effective against hair loss, but Polysorbate 80 has been found to work even better.
Polysorbate 80 Side Effects
Polysorbate is a safe and completely harmless substance, and it is even used in food – as a thickening agent in ice creams, mayonnaise, and salad dressings. Polysorbate is an oily liquid commonly used as an emulsifier in pharmaceuticals. It is also a surfactant, which means that it lowers the surface tension in liquids and viscous materials therefore it is often used in cosmetics to solubilise essential oils into water-based products. It is used in ice creams to prevent milk proteins from coating the fat droplets and to help the ice cream hold its shape and texture even as it melts.
How to Use Polysorbate 80
For best results, Polysorbate 80 should be used every day. A liberal amount should be massaged into the scalp, then you should leave it in for 30 minutes before shampooing out. Another option would be to leave it in all night, and then shampoo it out in the morning. Within few months of daily use, new hairs should begin to appear.
Polysorbate 80 Conclusion
A 8 oz bottle costs about $12. Affordable for almost anyone, the question is does it work. The answer is that it can be added to your regimen but don’t use it as your main treatment. There is not enough evidence that it works, or that it’s a potent hair growth product.
