Spironolactone 5% Review
Spironolactone (also known as spiro) is a potent oral medication for heart problems and other medical condition. It is also known as a potent antiandrogen. After people who suffered from baldness but used it for their medical conditions reported hair regrowth, topical versions poped up in the market. Spironolactone is also used in acne products as one of the main causes for acne is DHT, just like in hair loss.
Spironolactone for hair loss usually arrives in 2 forms of product – in a solution or in a cream. It is manufactured by small private factories, by taking the Spironolactone oral pills, pounding them into powder and mixing it with other ingredients. Spironolactone is not approved as a hair loss treatment by any authority, except for few hair loss experts and doctors, who also sells it in its topical form.
Topical Spironolactone – Cream or Solution?
In my opinion, the cream is a better product, as it also nourish the skin, easy to apply, absorbs well and does not drip. Topical Spironolactone cream is very simple to apply. You just dab some on your fingertip and work it in around the thinning areas.
Spironolactone 5% Side Effects
Topical Spironolactone has become a popular blandness cure, and for good reason. In its topical version it is relevantly safe and effective for use in both men and women, and can be used in conjunction with other hair loss treatments to topically enhance the effects. This antiandrogen will only absorb locally in the scalp skin, and does not pass into the blood stream so it should add no side effects. It locally stops the formation of DHT, as well as blocks androgen receptors in the follicles. This product is a great complement to any hair loss treatment.
Spironolactone 5% Ingredients
Dr. Lee’s Spironolactone: quantity and Ingredients: 2 oz / 60 grams. 5% spironolactone (50mg spironolactone / gm) in a lotion base of water, aloe vera gel, stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, alkyl octanoate, mineral oil, dimethicone, tocopherol acetate, magnesium aluminum silicate, sorbitol, disodium EDTA, methylparaben, dimethlydimethyl hydantoin.
There are few manufacturers of Spironolactone 5% cream, the ingredients list may be different but the active ingredient is always Spironolactone 5%.
Getting Results with Spironolactone 5%
Treating hair loss is a slow process that requires your persistence and patience. It may take 3-6 months to see initial results if you are lucky. Remember that results with most hair loss treatment take between 6-12 months to begin.
Spironolactone 5% Cost
Spironolactone 5% cream costs about $30 for 2 oz. This quantity is enough for 1-2 months.
Spironolactone 5% Conclusion
Spironolactone is an effective anti androgen drug. Its main effect is DHT receptors inhibition and no reported side effects are associated with it (be careful though, don’t use the Spironolactone pills as they have potent side effects such as gynecomastia). It’s affordable, and you can add it to your current treatment regimen. On the other hand, this product is not for people who are looking for natural or herbal baldness cures as it is based on a synthetic drug.
