Saw Palmetto Review
Saw Palmetto, also known as Serenoa Repens, is extracted from a berry that grows mainly in South America. Saw Palmetto has traditionally used by the Indians as a cure for many diseases and consider it then and today to beĀ powerful medicinal.
Saw Palmetto has been shown to inhibit the enzyme 5AR, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT- dihydrotestoterone, which is the cause for pattern baldness in men and women. DHT causes damage to the hair follicles, which cause shedding, slows hair creation and eventually eliminates hair growth permanently unless treated.
Saw Palmetto Research
It has been shown that Saw Palmetto is effective against enlarged prostate in men. As prostate growth is mainly caused by DHT, just like pattern baldness, Saw Plametto is used for both problems. Studies have shown that it has a positive effect in both cases, however there are no clinical studies proving that Saw Plametto is actually working, the reason is it’s a natural substance, but don’t forget that some of the most powerful drugs are made of plants, so it seems that natural baldness cures are underestimated.
What special about Saw Palmetto is that it inhibits both types of 5AR. The enzyme type I 5 alpha-reductase can be found in the sebaceous glands (oil glands) of most areas of the skin, including the scalp. The type II 5 alpha reductase can be found in the prostate, seminal vesicles, epididymides and the in the hair follicles.
Studies prove that Saw Plametto improves hair growth, and many hair loss products, such as Provillus for Men and Procerin which are oral and Revivogen and Crinagen which are topical include it as their main baldness cure.
Saw Plametto Side Effects
Saw Plametto is considered to be safe for men, it should not be used by women orally, as is has a similar effect like Propecia. When taken topically in can be used also by women (except pregnant), and there are no reports of side effects using it. In the Indian tradition it’s considered to be a cure for bladder and reproductive system problems and as a medicine against impotency.
Saw Palmetto Cost
You can get Saw Palmetto tablets for very low cost online. You can also get products that includes it. GNC Men’s Ultra Saw Plametto Formula costs only $10-$15 for 60 capsules.
Saw Palmetto Conclusion
Saw Palmetto is a great natural baldness cure. Still there are no FDA approved clinical studies that proves it works as it is not a medicine. Most natural DHT blocker products, supplement and topical contain it, and it has shown to successfully inhibit the production of DHT. It is highly recommended as a supplement to your current hair growth regimen and you can add it to any treatment (some users add it to Propecia and report outstanding results).
