Baldness in Women is a Living Nightmare

In general women’s hair loss is different then men hairloss, it’s usually reflected by thinning hair and does not result in total hair loss. Even though women’s hair loss is partial, it is extremely devastating for any woman when it happens.

The psychological impact of women’s hair loss is much more painful and extensive compared to men’s since women consider their hair as a vital part of their femininity and beauty and find it to be one the the most important parts of their appearance and grooming. A women who is losing her hair will lose her self esteem and may feel unattractive and ugly, which may result with high levels of stress and emotional vulnerability.

With men, the picture is totally different, as its a fact of life that many men lose their hair in some level. It’s so common its considered normal and even masculine in some cases…  still it’s much better to have hair that to lose it (Michael Jordan, Bruce Willis and so many other famous icons are bald).

Thinning hair in Women has different reasons. Heredity is most common – just like with men, and known as female pattern baldness (you can learn more about the causes for baldness in this post). The treatment of women’s baldness is entirely different than that of men, because of the physiological and hormonal differences.

Women suffering from hair loss need to consult their doctor to find out what causes their baldness, usually a simple blood test can tell if the reason is a medical condition, poor diet or levels of hormones.

The treatment should match the findings, but when it comes to female pattern baldness it means that the woman is healthy but sensitive to high DHT levels. Then, there are great hair loss solution that can be used to stop the baldness and regrow hair (for example minoxidil 2%).

Poor diet comes second after female pattern baldness, as women tend to try diets or keep low attention to what and when they eat, which results with lack of vitamins and minerals, especially iron and zinc, as well as low protein levels that leads to temporary hair loss.

If the problem is hormones levels, the physician may recommend progesterone to correct the condition (you have it in birth control pills, when you stop taking them the progesterone levels may drop and the result may be hair loss). Other natural changes such as giving birth are temporary and pass naturally after 3-6 months. This is mainly due to the fact that the progesterone level rise during pregnancy, which helps keeping the hair follicles in the growth phase, but immediately after childbirth there is a sudden drop of the progesterone levels which may cause the hair to enter into the resting phase. Still, during that temporary period there are many things you can do to to spare this temporary loss, using hair stimulator such as minoxidil, laser comb, shampoos etc.

Hair replacements as also very popular amongst women, as well as other cosmetic solution suck as Toppik. These measures will cover the baldness but will not help to stop it or regrow hair,  so it can be a good solution during the time of treatment, or when the damage to the hair is irreversible.

The most drastic treatment is hair transplant surgery. In the last few years this solution became very popular for women who lost a lot of their hair and in cases no other treatment worked.

If you are a woman who suffers from hair loss and thinning hair it is always advisable to seek the help of a dermatologist for complete diagnosis and treatment plan. You can also try hair stimulation and regrowth products that are proven to be safe and effective, most of them are offered online for affordable prices, and you can read about them in this blog.

Remember – women’s baldness in the initial stage can be treated with great results, so if you are losing hair, see a doctor asap. Also, define between temporary hair loss and risk for permanent balding. Permanent balding usually derives from female pattern baldness. Temporary hair loss usually derives from poor diet or hormonal changes related to progesterone levels. You just must take immediate action if you are diagnosed to have pattern baldness, the sooner you start treatment – the faster and better your baldness cure results will be shown.
